About Bursa
Bursa province, which is located in the west of Turkey and south of the Marmara Sea, is located in the Marmara Region of our country. Bursa, which is the second largest city in the Marmara Region after Istanbul, is also Turkey's fourth largest metropolis. Bursa, the city where the Ottoman Empire started to expand, bearing the traces of different civilisations with its thousands of years of history, is home to a rich culture. Bursa, which has a rare cultural and historical heritage with its spatial and architectural features of the Byzantine, Ottoman and Republican periods, is one of the cities worth seeing in Turkey. As a matter of fact, considering the remains of the Bithynian, Roman, Seljuk, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, Bursa can be described as a city of history and empires. Bursa also served as the capital of the Ottoman Empire for 28 years between 1335–1363. There are many historical mosques, masjids and tombs in Bursa, where the first examples of Ottoman architecture are seen with the kulliyes built by the Ottoman sultans. In addition, with the Historical Bazaar and Inns area, the foundations of which were laid during the Ottoman period, today it serves as both a tourism center and a shopping center for local and foreign tourists.
Bursa is a city blessed with natural attractions, healing waters, summer and winter tourism opportunities. Bursa province, located on the historical Silk Road, is our main textile city, which had the first weaving industry of the Ottoman and Republican periods. Today, it has gained the distinction of being the 4th largest industrial city of Turkey. Bursa is an important agricultural city. It has a significant potential in crop production, especially peaches, black figs, olives, onions. On the other hand, it is a very productive center in terms of poultry, sheep and cattle breeding and silkworm breeding. It is known as "Green Bursa" with its mountains, plateaus, caves, lakes, healing water sources, canyons, forests, streams, waterfalls and rich vegetation. Bursa province has gained the distinction of being an important cultural center with folk dances, theater, puppet and shadow plays, cinema, music, literature and photography art events every year. Bursa, which has a unique gastronomical culture, has also taken its place with Ottoman cuisine, döner kebab, meatballs with pita and candied chestnuts. Finally, Bursa province contributes to the education of many young people with its well-established educational institutions, especially Uludağ University and Bursa Technical University, and plays a critical role in the development of our country.
